Hush and Lou (UP FOR ADOPTION)

Hush and Lou are a lovely couple up for adoption with Sydney Pet Rescue and Adoption.

Hush and Lou are siblings and very loving towards each other. Their mum Winifred ended up at the pound on death row with a surprise tummy full of little ones. Winifred has given them an amazing start to life despite enduring so many challenges and now they are looking for their forever homes together. We'd like for them to go together so they will never have to be alone.

Hush is a fluffy chinchilla bunny who will need some help with her amazing coat!!! Hush is very lovely and has always looked after Lou licking him through their barrier (whilst undesexed) and staying close by. Hush is a clever bunny and can jump the highest out of everyone- even the adult buns! She is good for a pat and a cuddle but also loves an adventure in the garden, where placed she will do immediate binkies and run as fast as she can back and forth!

Lou is our only little boy out of the lot. He was the last to do everything (open his little eyes, come out of the nest) and is regarded as the baby. He has a gorgeous coat and looks adorable side by side with Hush. He is a very sweet boy and steals the hearts of all who meet him. He would like to stay with Hush forever but just needs a forever home for them to live.

These two are looking for a household who enjoy rabbits for rabbits- giving them freedom to run and jump and explore. They'd also like to be part of the family and give you as much love as they give each other. They are used to an indoor playpen where they use their litter box and can still do rabbity things like running and jumping. They also have the potential to be housetrained for a particular room or for the whole house!! Hush is too fluffy to live outdoors and bunnies are very susceptible to heat so this would not be advisable.

The Bunny Rules

1. The bunny is not allowed in the house.
2. OK, the bunny is allowed in the house, but only in certain rooms.
3. The bunny is allowed in all rooms, but has to stay off the furniture.
4. The bunny can get on the old furniture only.
5. Fine, the bunny is allowed on all the furniture, but is not allowed to sleep with humans, on the bed.
6. OK, the bunny is allowed on the bed,but only by invitation.
7. The bunny can sleep on the bed when-ever he wants, but not under the covers.
8. The bunny can sleep under the coversby invitation only.
9. The bunny can sleep under the coversevery night.
10. Humans must ask permission to sleep under the covers with the bunny.

Diary of Winifred's Babes: Day 7

 So our little ones start to look like individuals. These were taken today- on their one week birthday!! Mama Winifred is doing a splendid job feeding her babes and even letting us watch sometimes. She comes over to make sure I'm not doing anything too rough with her little ones as I check them each day and has become more and more relaxed. She seems like she's just enjoying being a mama- hopefully she hasn't had to do it too many times before.

Diary of Winifred's Babes: Day 3

Here are they at 3 days old.

We can see fur growing and even their little bodies have grown in this short time! Their markings are coming out and we can see so far one really white one, one really dark one and the rest are speckled with two being quite hard to tell apart at this stage.

They are individuals already- 2 of them like to make lots of fuss, crawling over everyone and scratching the floor, trying to get the best spot amongst Mamma Winifred's fur. There is one really calm, quiet guy- one of the speckled ones whose quite accomodating to everyone.

Winifred is much calmer and happier for me to come and check her bubs- she has let me watch them drink her milk twice now which is unusual for both her personality and the prey instincts of rabbits in general.  And a great pleasure for me as the noises of baby bunnies suckling are really adorable. Winifred has been timid and flighty til now and today I could pat her whilst she ate.

All things are nice and furry in the bunny nook.

Our First Hoppy Ever After happened on 8th April 2011

Our first successful rehome since starting one month ago!

Wolfgang was a privately rescued bunny residing with 5 others who picked on him. He needed his own space and some one on one love and care.

Hans, who lost his dear bunny Pepe during surgery, needed a new friend and found Wolfgang through a BunnyBook Gumtree ad. So now Wolfgang (now Wolfgang Amadeus!) is snuggling with Hans on his couch with his partner and housemate and living a life of luxury.

Animal Foster Carers Society- This page is a place where animal foster carers from all walks of life can unite. You can share experiences, tips, information and special moments that you have with your foster companions. 

Australian Animal Rescue Transport- to connect fosters, shelters and rescues with people who can transport animals to their destinations and visa versa.

Hop the film (out in time for Easter [of course])

Animal rescue organizations across the country are bracing for their much-dreaded, annual Easter buying spree. This year, compounded by it being the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Rabbit, and of course, the popular new family movie, “Hop”, there is going to be an even larger upswing in impulse purchases. from here.

Lets try educate all our acquaintances that even though its Easter, Year of the Rabbit and movies such as Hop make bunnies seem cute and appealing- that a plush toy or cruelty free chocolate is a much better gift for these occasions and for children in general!

The Yarra Ranges Council ordered the closure of Rabbit Run-Away in December 2010, after refusing to grant a permit to allow them to continue operating the orphanage on their property in Stanley Street, Olinda.

Neighbours objections about extra traffic, limited parking in the street, the odour from the property, and black rabbits seen running loose in adjoining properties, led to the council's unanimous decision on the refusal of the permit.
These objections, which have been grossly exaggerated, falsified, not proven and poorly investigated by council officials, are the product of a small minority of uneducated, malicious, and slanderous troublemaking neighbours.
