Urgent: Turtle and Midnight are looking for love!

Turtle and Midnight have spent the last 12 months in a tiny cage by the side of the road, standing on 4cm of their own droppings and getting no play time. They have been terrorised by dogs and been given no care or love from anyone except the comfort they have given each other.

A kind woman, Mary, has rescued them and taken the scared little girls into her home. But she already has 2 rescue rabbits, other animals and is suffering from cancer. She has too much on her plate to take them in permanently but has done such a wonderful job so far.

We are looking for some kind, caring people to take the two girls in short term or long term and provide a safe indoor space and let them adjust to a more comfortable, secure lifestyle (not in a cage!)

Diary of Winifred's Babes: Week 5

The babies are now 5 weeks old and eating fresh greens, hay and oxbow young pellets. They are super happy and jumpy little guys with round tummies and so much fluff! I have had to give them all butt and tummy trims because its too long under there and gets matted!  Each day is a new joy watching them binky and dart around- I feel very very blessed. They are still drinking Mama Winifred's milk but it is a loud, squirming affair as they are getting so big now and find it hard to squeeze under there together! I bet Mama Winifred can't wait for that to be over- 3 weeks and she can go off to get desexed and get her body back to herself (besides all that cuddling!!) I love how close bunnies are to each other- most of my photos are inspired by walking by and seeing them in a new configuration of snuggley nap bliss.  Check out the latest pictures-my favourite being the baby bunny yawning!

Diary of Winifred's Babes: Day 3

Here are they at 3 days old.

We can see fur growing and even their little bodies have grown in this short time! Their markings are coming out and we can see so far one really white one, one really dark one and the rest are speckled with two being quite hard to tell apart at this stage.

They are individuals already- 2 of them like to make lots of fuss, crawling over everyone and scratching the floor, trying to get the best spot amongst Mamma Winifred's fur. There is one really calm, quiet guy- one of the speckled ones whose quite accomodating to everyone.

Winifred is much calmer and happier for me to come and check her bubs- she has let me watch them drink her milk twice now which is unusual for both her personality and the prey instincts of rabbits in general.  And a great pleasure for me as the noises of baby bunnies suckling are really adorable. Winifred has been timid and flighty til now and today I could pat her whilst she ate.

All things are nice and furry in the bunny nook.

Rupert and Evie need Desperate help!!!

MELB: Rupert and Evie's mum is moving to Queensland for her job- sadly there are no bunnies allowed there (they incur a huge fine and are put to sleep) so she has to leave them behind.


These very loved companions are adorable and follow each other around, Evie is very protective of Rupert and they are such a joy to watch together.


Rupert has some special needs to do with his teeth but just requires an injection each week- his mum is supplying 5 months worth for him. Besides that they are healthy and happy and come desexed and vaccinated.

They need urgent help and can be either adopted or fostered by a caring person who can make them part of the family indoors. Even if you are not in Melb, let us know if you can help.

Bronte.

Female/Breed: /Age: under 6 months old.

Bronte is an adorable white bunny rescued off a Sydney highway by a concerned bunny lover- Talia. She has been raised indoors and has a bit of a fear about being outside perhaps left over from her days of abandonment near the busy highway. She is super social, cuddly and like to lick and play. She is a little shy at the moment but might like a companion to play with. She is not suitable for children under 13 or other larger animals. She is looking for a loving, patient, bunny-savvy or eager to learn home who is happy to house her indoors as a family member, preferably with a mostly free range lifestyle. She is litter trained and will be desexed, vaccinated and vet checked. Bronte is currently with Talia in Lawson, The Blue Mountains.

Belle came to us from the pound where she was surrendered by her previous owners. I find it hard to know why someone would surrender such a gorgeous creature with such nice manners, such a pretty face and fluffy chinchilla coat! She has a mild temperament and is still a little shy at the moment. We think she'll come out of her shell to be a rascally but snuggley bunny.

She is residing with Clare and Alex (with Leia) in Dulwich Hill for now, but hopefully this soon to be cuddle bear will be someones new best friend.

She will be available for adoption from Sydney Pet Rescue, after desexing and vaccination.

Fosters Carers Needed

It's coming up to Easter and us bunny lovers are worried about the influx that comes after bunnies given as gifts lose their novelty.

Shelters are full. Foster carers scarce. The general public uncaring. Who will look after these poor lost souls??

Our First Hoppy Ever After happened on 8th April 2011

Our first successful rehome since starting one month ago!

Wolfgang was a privately rescued bunny residing with 5 others who picked on him. He needed his own space and some one on one love and care.

Hans, who lost his dear bunny Pepe during surgery, needed a new friend and found Wolfgang through a BunnyBook Gumtree ad. So now Wolfgang (now Wolfgang Amadeus!) is snuggling with Hans on his couch with his partner and housemate and living a life of luxury.

Two great facebook groups for people who can help or need help:

Animal Foster Carers Society- This page is a place where animal foster carers from all walks of life can unite. You can share experiences, tips, information and special moments that you have with your foster companions. 

Australian Animal Rescue Transport- to connect fosters, shelters and rescues with people who can transport animals to their destinations and visa versa.

Hop the film (out in time for Easter [of course])

Animal rescue organizations across the country are bracing for their much-dreaded, annual Easter buying spree. This year, compounded by it being the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Rabbit, and of course, the popular new family movie, “Hop”, there is going to be an even larger upswing in impulse purchases. from here.

Lets try educate all our acquaintances that even though its Easter, Year of the Rabbit and movies such as Hop make bunnies seem cute and appealing- that a plush toy or cruelty free chocolate is a much better gift for these occasions and for children in general!

Bunny Biz

The latest, from this week @ BunnyBook.

A great first week for BunnyBook kick started by the rescue of Leia from the pound, who is now recovering from illness at our nook. There are also 7 bunnies in the foster care section of the site and 3 in the pound. Please let me know if you can help.

Many new friends on the FB, which is super exciting. Bit by bit we will gather our strength.
