We always recommend an independent shelter or rescue over a pound- your bunny will be better socialised, healthier and you will be given the guidance and real information you need because there are relationships between carers and individual bunnies. Pounds and big shelters like the RSPCA don't have as much time and sometimes inclination to give the animals proper care and you can never really be sure what kind of animal you are getting. You are able to have a trial with a good rescue group and return the animal if it doesn't suit your circumstances. Try Sydney Pet Rescue and Adoption or Porsche's Small Animal Rescue first or peruse PetRescue for full listings of reputable rescues and adoptable animals.

Always make sure to ask lots of questions- as much as you can about their temperament, any known history (such as reason for surrender), if the animal has been given vet care, whether the animal is desexed and vaccinated and whether it is possible if she is pregnant.
